We finally bought our tickets to Phnom Penh, so when Andys study program ended, we left the following morning on a bus from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. One of my soul siblings our friend Jun recently moved to KL.A Japanese-born Malay genius from Johor Bahru, Jun came into our lives during our blue period (tsunami relief). We called him Waterboy, not because of his high-quality H2O, but because he is an environmental engineer specializing in water treatment. Not only is he brilliant; Juns a remarkable, philosophically profound, sensitive guy with a fabulous sense of humor. We decided that a short stopover in KL would be a nice treat (for us, at least) for his birthday.
Leaving KL for Phnom Penh: Jun seeing us off...
Anice thing about visiting Jun is that he completely understands our relaxed pace, and genuinely knows that were in no need of babysitting, entertaining, or hand-holding. Jun is perfectly content to spend time with us spending time with him.Its great; we can perceive life through a local residents eyes, enjoy dining or coffee or journal-time together, and experience each moment to its fullest. Its also nice notobsessingoverseeing and doing" everything in a given place; we are happy merely being together. There's never afeeling of having to entertain shallow conversation in the face ofsilence.Theres an unspoken comfort between the 3 of us, like my family at the beach. Its never awkward, definitely interesting, and always entertaining.
